Daniel Matmor

Daniel Matmor, Director

"There's an old Chinese curse: 'May you live in interesting times.' We are living in a precarious age, where the pull of authoritarianism seems overwhelming. But this happened eighty years ago. My mother was a child when the Hungarian fascist started rounding up the Jews for extermination.

In this documentary, I wanted to explore her life before, during, and after—including during the communist regime—to examine how a society, law by law, decree by decree, can incrementally descend into evil and hatred. It comes out of normalcy. I also wanted to explore history through a child's point of view.

Now, my mother is in her eighties and she remembers these events through the eyes of a child. Sometimes, children perceive things that adults don't. HIDDEN—The Kati Preston Story is not just a story of survival; it is also a family drama and an examination of the chaos of evil. It is an astonishing story that needed to be told." —Daniel Matmor

Jody Glover

Jody Glover, Producer

"The persecution and hatred of the Jews during World War II is strikingly similar to the suffering endured by Indigenous peoples, including my own ancestors, here in Canada. Given the current political climates in both the United States and Canada, I believe it is more important than ever to share stories that remind us of the dangers of dictatorships and help teach future generations to recognize threats to our peaceful and inclusive way of life.

Making this film has been an absolute pleasure. It's a privilege and an honour to work with Kati and to help share her powerful story. After watching the documentary, she told me that we had immortalized her family – those she never had the chance to grow up with. That meant everything. I'm also deeply grateful to the incredible cast and crew, who generously donated their time and gave so much of themselves to bring this project to life. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart." —Jody Glover

Daniel D'Or

Daniel D'Or, Executive Producer

"There are many reasons I was attracted to being involved in and supporting this film. My father was a survivor of the Holocaust; however, his parents and eight siblings perished. It's a part of my being to share the lessons of that time in history.

Kati's remarkable story of survival as a child is so beautifully and eloquently presented by her. Her captivating style of direct honesty and messaging of love was truly overwhelming to me. Every time I watch the film, she fills my heart.

And finally, after being a filmmaker my entire life, I was astonished by the quality and creative storying that this production team was able to achieve. Every detail in the producing of this film was expertly handled to achieve the final product. It's an honour to know and be a part of this team and support the sharing of this beautiful and important film with the world." —Daniel D'Or
